Kvernan is a farm which is located between Lyngdal and Lampeland in Flesberg, near Kongsberg in Numedal, some miles from Oslo in Norway. Here is the smallest mill in Norway located. There has been a mill by the waterfall in the "Lyngdal River" since before 1670. First as a farm-mill for Vatnebryn, then, in 1723, ground the river-mill for the neighbours, and in 1801 "lived the man of the place and the mill".
All corn were ground on stonemills till the 1970s. Now only the barley-meal and the coarse flour are ground on the old stonemill, while the animal-meal are ground in more modern machines. Click on the picture to find out more about the mill.
In 1918 the farm got it's own power station that took over for the big waterwheels on the mill. The dam beside the outlet of the Vatnebryn waters was repaired in 1911. The mill, as it looks today, was built in the 1920s. Earlier, it was placed about where the power station is today.
The power station from 1918 was in use until 1986 when it unfortunately was damaged. It was too expensive to repair it, so it wasn't done.
The sawmill was partly in use until the power station shut down. Down to the right you see the water tunnel which goes down to the power station. Click on the picture to for more information!
In the summer of 1991 we opened Sommerstua (The Summer House) for the first time. Since then we've each year had waffles, ice-cream, Pommes Frites and more for sale in the nice old summerhouse built in the middle of the 19th century. It has been moved several times, and was set up where it stands now around 1948. Click on the picture for more information about The Summer House.
